How to do Benihana in Skate 4

Despite a rocky soft launch and issues with joining servers, crossplay, and EA account connections, Skate has been attracting a massive number of players from the start, thanks to the franchise’s loyal fan base. From flips to grinds and even off-board maneuvers, the game offers a wide range of moves to master and enjoy.

The Grab category alone lists 63 tricks, spread across sections like modified grabs, ground-based grabs, one-foot grabs, and no-foot grabs. Skateboarders will use many of these moves in amateur, semi-pro, and pro quests. Among them is the Benihana, which you’ll encounter in the Benihana Front Flip Challenge. It’s an advanced trick that requires more technique than just pushing triggers.

How to do Benihana in Skate 4

Being a one-foot grab maneuver, the Benihana requires you to roll over lifted surfaces to perform it, meaning it can’t be done on the ground. Luckily, there are several prominent spots across San Van’s four neighborhoods where you can practice it in preparation for quests. If you’re attempting it as part of an objective, your lobby will even provide ramps.

The controls for performing Benihana in Skate 4 are straightforward:

  • Xbox: Right Stick UP + L2 + X
  • PS4/PS5: Right Stick UP + L2 + Square

Although these inputs are listed in Skatepedia (your go-to guide for tricks), the description isn’t detailed enough to pull off the trick. If you follow the triggers exactly, it’s easy to accidentally perform a One-Foot Air, Judo Air, Boned Ollie, or another grab move instead. That’s normal, executing the Benihana isn’t just about pressing all the buttons at once; it also takes strategy and timing, which you’ll get better at with practice.

Precisely said, to do the Benihana in Skate 4 correctly, you first have to shoot off a ramp. While in the air, hold the right stick up, then press L2, release the right stick, and quickly press X (or Square if you’re on PlayStation). Pressing X/Square at the right moment is what differentiates a Benihana from a One-Foot Air; you have to be super fast when doing it.

Moreover, make sure your gameplay settings are all set. If your default stance is Goofy, you can use the controls as mentioned above. However, if it’s set to Regular, you’ll need to use R2 instead of L2. To confirm or change your stance in Skate 4, go to Settings > Gameplay > Controls > Preferences > Default Stance.
